“Once again, I heard the boast that Utah leads the nation in per-capita charitable giving. By conveniently omitting that LDS tithing accounts for the distinction, the statement arguably misleads. Members are taught under threat of being burned at the Second Coming that tithing is commanded of God. Payment is a requirement for temple attendance and, by extension, exaltation. To tithe in the LDS Church is not a charitable act; it is a capitulation to a bully.”
