Until the 1970s, the church referred to Satan as having black skin. Although this belief was not found in many LDS writings, it was important enough to have been secretly taught in the temple for more than 100 years.
As such, Mormons equated black skin with the illest character in its faith.
Just because it’s not taught any more, doesn’t take away from the fact that it was once a centerpiece, and has never been renounced.
